AMS COMPLETES PRODUCTION ON PORTRAIT OF ABUSE: AN AMERICAN EPIDEMIC WITH ARTIST GLENDA FREEMAN (PDF, 92K)

The sadness and torture of abuse, and the depth of the heartache of this crime is superbly addressed. It reminds you on a greater scale of how truly powerful the importance is in our community to acknowledge and to raise awareness of this crime.... And it is all captured in a 45 minute DVD.

"Portrait of Abuse" is a beautifully produced and directed documentary of the epidemic of family violence that exists behind closed doors in our neighborhoods everywhere.  I am certain that it will give any individual who sees it in our community, our auxiliaries, as well as our shelter trainings, and volunteers, a clearer insight into this devastation and tragedy that continues to live amongst us.

Hopefully, this DVD can one day touch the lives of all Health Care Workers and Industry HR people who take the time to view it. Perhaps then those whose lives have remained untouched can  comprehend the depths of despair that continues to plague, threaten and kill the spirit and take the lives of so many of our female population. If this does not renew your strength, energy and passion to defeat this predator in your lifetime, nothing ever will.

- Beth Leaman (Domestic Violence Survivor)

The film "Portrait of Abuse" tells the ugly truth about domestic violence and the tragic epidemic numbers going on in America today.  This affects everybody, everyday in so many ways whether you choose to know it or not.

This is why it is so important that everyone see this documentary.  No one is safe from this epidemic and even the innocent can and do become victims of this violence.  The only way we can protect ourselves and those we love is to speak up and get those that need the help all the resources they need so a new and better outcome can be realized for ourselves and our children.  "Every woman and child deserves to feel safe in their body, safe in their bed and safe in their home," as a woman who was raped by her husband for over 5 years this is my hope for a better outcome for all. Please help me make this happen, view "Portrait of Abuse" and find out more.

- Shirley Cooper (Marital Rape Survivor)

I am so pleased with the film, "Portrait of Abuse."  I feel privileged to have been asked to participate in the filming and to share Bonnie's story.  As I said in the film, before her murder, we had never been concerned with domestic violence because we thought it didn't pertain to people like us.  What an eye-opener it is to become an actual victim of domestic violence!  Since that time we have become increasing involved in getting the word out about the epidemic that is undermining the family foundation of our society.

You have done an excellent job in presenting the problem of the epidemic of domestic violence.  I could only wish that this film were mandatory viewing in schools, hospitals, police departments and social service agencies.

- Barbara Arnett (Mother of deceased domestic violence victim)
